Discovering Opportunities in Brazil - Renewable Energy
Cell phone operator will use distributed
power generation to reduce costs
One of the largest cell phone operators in Brazil, Tim, will hire 15
companies that will carry out distributed generation projects in 21 of the 26
states in the country. The program will involve solar farms, small
hydroelectric and wind farms, and the use of biomass. Since 2017, about 30% of
the energy used by the company today comes from the free market - where large
customers can choose suppliers or the generation of small hydropower. "By
2020, 60% of our demand will be met by these options outside the traditional
market. This generates savings of up to 18% in the amount disbursed, "said
Bruno Gentil, director of corporate resources. The idea is to leave the captive
market, where payment is made to distributors, until 2032.
