Bunge and Santander launch line to expand soya
beans production without deforestation in Brazilian Cerrado forest
Covering
9 states in the southeastern, midwestern and northeastern regions of Brazil,
the Brazilian Cerrado forest will have a financing line of US $ 50 million,
with attractive rates varying between 6% and 11% per year, sponsored by Bunge,
Santander Brasil and the TNC (The Nature Conservation) organization. The
objective is to stimulate the expansion of soya bean production in areas
already degraded in the cerrado of Brazil, says the largest global exporter of
oilseeds. According to
TNC calculations, the Brazilian Cerrado has more than 25 million hectares of
land that has been deforested in the past and which are suitable for the
expansion of soya beans.
